A few weeks ago, our 9 AM Mass ended with an unscheduled fire drill when the small hands of one of our younger parishioners made their way to one of the pull stations in the narthex. While there was no emergency that day, those in attendance at the liturgy responded exceptionally well. The building was evacuated in a calm and orderly manner, using all available exits, and within moments of the alarm’s sounding. Many thanks to the members of the Oakville Fire Department, who checked the building, reset the alarm, and had us up and running for an on-time start at 10:30 AM. Experiences like this can, from time-to-time, actually prove helpful in organizations like our parish. The morning’s events exposed to us the need to have a more clearly defined emergency preparedness plan. Thanks to Deacon John Moss, who has offered to assist with this project in the coming months.
