The Intercessory group was formed in the early fall of 2006. Meetings started in a home and moved to St. Matthews Parish Oakville in 2007.
The Charism of the Intercessory group:
Contemplative – gift of silent prayer, an active listening to God’s voice.
In silence and in the stillness, God is telling us that we can experience Him. Ps 46:10. (Catechism of the Catholic Church -CCC 2709-19).
Charismatic - open to the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit to build up the church. (1 Cor 12:4-11 and CCC 768-99). Specifically, the gift of prayer and intercession from the Holy Spirit – Romans 8:26-27 "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes with us with sighs too deep for words."
The Intercessory Mission Statement and Structure
- Respond to God's call to become intercessors for our families and those who are dear to us, for our parish community, leaders of nations, our Holy Catholic church, the pope, pastors, priests, religious and the whole world (especially those who need God’s mercy the most)
- As Intercessors, we "stand in the gap" between God and those we are praying for, asking the Lord for His mercy and blessings. Ezekiel 22:30
- Intercessions and prayer on behalf of others knows no boundaries, even extends to one’s enemies - Catechism of the Catholic Church 2647.
